Del Monte

Del Monte

Corner Esplanade and South St

What an impressive building!

For many years Del Monte (now Secrets by the Sea) was the largest and most impressive building on the Henley foreshore. Built in 1911, of late federation style architecture, it was built as a guest house during a time when Henley Beach was a popular seaside resort and the demand for luxury accommodation was strong.

Del Monte was also used as the headquarters for the Australian Cricket Academy between 1987 - 2003. Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne and other famous Australian cricketers lived here while training at the Adelaide Oval. It was also the facility for the Australian Institute of Sport cycling team for a short time afterwards.

Today, this iconic heritage building has been transformed into a fresh seafood restaurant and stands as a reminder of the care and pride in 'craftsmanship' of a bygone era.
